Hello Internet, over all those years of being into open-source game development I just have to tell someone my experiences with that.
Let's just start with the biggest problem right ahead and the biggest problem with the nonexistent open-source game development community is its nonexistentness and the biggest problem with nonexistent things is, that they don't exist.
In the past I always thought people really mean it seriously, if they complain about bad products or shady business practices from companies and therefore want improvement of the situation. I don't want to go into detail about those shady practices, since there are a lot of them, but in its core it is all about milking as much money from the customer while at the same time spending as little as possible into the development, this results in never fixing issues with the game or just abandoning it straight after it was released and those games that do not get abandoned get filled with microtransactions which results in the game experience being destroyed, since it is no longer a fair game which makes it meaningless to play on a competitive level. Most peopel probably know the problems very well, since they complain about them and even make documentaries explaining all in detail whats wrong.
People keep asking me, if I will make a Battle Royale game mode for Uebergame, because it is so popular now, but I always found it boring and retarded.
Around now would normally be the time for releasing a new update for Uebergame, but there is none, since I thought I will take a break and do other things and skip one update, well not the update, but the planned time period for developing it.
This version adds 3 complete new levels in the tropical pacific style, with 4 variations each as known from the other levels, like at dawn, by day, by night and in rain.
1.Pazifik_Kitney_Beach: A small tropical island with moderately dense vegetation, it is very symmetrical, to offer better balance on teamplay modes.
-New Pazifik Islands level in dawn/day/night/rain versions
-An extra version of the Pazifik Islands level for main menu background also in dawn/day/night/rain versions
-New system that displays main menu background levels from random viewpoints for more variation
-New game type called "Marked for Death"
-Some general game scripts cleanup
Version 184.108.40.206 adds 4 new maps and a new game type called RtF (Retrieve the Flag)
The rules for Retrieve the Flag are as follows:
Each team starts in his own base or on their own side, its the same spawns as in Team Deathmatch. Then players have to get the flag that is placed somewhere in the map on a flag spawner and bring it to a capture point.
Uebergame goes on with a new fancy version.
Download in Uebergame section: http://duion.com/games/uebergame/main
-Fancy 3D realtime main menu background system
-6 Different 3D main menu backgrounds so far
Finally version 220.127.116.11 is out.
This is also the two year anniversary of Uebergame. It was two years ago when the first alpha was released on 24th december 2014. It is not on steam since that, the Steam version was released roughly one year later at 26th october 2015.
Main new features are:
-Engine and renderer update for better performance
-Visual interface overhaul
This update mainly adds new levels and assets.
The new level PB_Gummifeld consists of one large area containing multiple paintball fields, 4 teamplay fields and 2 deathmatch arenas.
Each paintball field can be played individually in DM and TDM mode or the whole map can be played at once without boundaries.
